New academic year. New goals. New professional tone in the newsletter? Check. Check. Of course not.
We look back at REVA Happiness Week with photos of the REVA Day, of course, and recap the key messages from the open department meeting (presentation here). Concluding remark: help think of a new name for the meeting rooms.

Kicking in an open office door: how our workplace is organised (individual desk spaces and too few meeting areas) is no longer aligned with how we work anno 2024 - and actually since 2020 - (flexible and remote). At the open department meeting, we presented and discussed the idea of redesigning our work floor, with full integration of colleagues at 2P1 into B3 being a key starting point. Thanks to all attendees for the constructive input and valuable discussion!

In short and pitchy: we no longer divide desk spaces by person (what is your function, percentage, area of expertise), but rather by the type of work we do. And that is the same for all of us: we work individually, we collaborate and discuss with colleagues, we hold meetings. Our spaces need to accommodate this. And together with our flexible (teleworking) policy, we make it possible for each of us to work smoothly.

Everyone along: concise indication of the context and idea of where we want to go can be found here in a few slides. But everyone is always welcome for extra explanation and to ping pong about it with the department manager. He likes to do so, literally and figuratively.
It is only the absolute beginning, there is nothing more than the present concept. Plan of action, concrete elaboration: it all still has to happen and it will take time. But we hope to keep everyone well informed at regular intervals. If you have any ideas on this or have seen good practices elsewhere, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Save the date!
On Thursday 19 December in the morning, our CWO is organising the REVA Research Day. Now yes, half-day. But time enough to get to know two research units, Paediatric Rehabilitation and Speech Language, and have a poster session.
Mark it in your agenda.

Keep an eye on...
the professionalisation activity Popularising communication with Scimingo on Tuesday, 19 November, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
the autumn call for the Social Valorisation Fund which runs until 22 October.
You can read more about the purpose and submission conditions right here.
Feel free to ask colleague Cassandra Alighieri that it is worth taking your chance. She acquired nice funding from the fund for her SMILE Project this spring.
Science Day on Sunday 24 November.
This year there is only the centrally organised edition in the Krook and the UFO and not on the UZ Gent Campus. The central themes - totally up to our standards, say - are Movement and Health and Energy.
All info and more about your registration can be found on Intranet.

Societal Outreach is becoming a mandatory part of new PhD trajectories. But what exactly does this entail? An inspiration framework has been created with possible activities to inspire you. These range from contributing to alumni outreach and lifelong learning to transferring academic knowledge to the general public.

Stress can sometimes grab us by our necks. It is important to recognise, acknowledge stressors and know how to deal with them in a healthy way. During our Happiness Week, we invited Marieke Impens from The Human Link. In her keynote stress management, she gave us valuable insights and practical tips to help ourselves and our colleagues deal with stress. Whether you were there or not, you can still learn something from her presentation.

The UGent well-being survey brought interesting insights, both about positive aspects and areas for improvement. Four core themes were identified on which we, as a department, will focus further: workload, respectful behaviour, financial support and connection. A vision will be formulated for each theme, followed by concrete - existing or new - actions.
Would you like to think about, give input or follow up on any of these issues? Do not hesitate to speak to one of your peer representatives.

With some imagination, Campus Sterre was our desert island and with even more imagination, the bugs * insert Italian chef's finger kiss* were a five-star meal.

Format and fill-in may change slightly, but a REVA Happiness Week on the eve of the academic year remains faithfully on the agenda. For enthusiasts and planners: edition 2025 from 15 to 19 September.

The meeting room will be split into two parts to better accommodate flexible working needs, such as additional meeting or collaboration spaces. You don't have to help install the gyproc, but we'd love it if you think along about an original name for the new rooms.
An appropriate term or an important figure from one of our various REVA disciplines?
Or another fun duo name (excluding P. Diddy and R. Kelly)?
Your suggestions are welcome here!

Do you volunteer in some way? Via the faculty news channels, stories of volunteers will soon be highlighted. If you would like to share your experiences of volunteering, do not hesitate to contact Annelies Vermeir, faculty communications coordinator.
